An antique map from an era when you could almost smell gunpowder. The Russo-Japanese War broke out in February 1904, and this map was published in March of the same year. The map also includes details that are conscious of Russia. For example, the ports of Vladivostok and Port Arthur are enlarged in the topics section. It is also interesting that Siberia, Mongolia, and Manchuria are depicted in more detail than China. The world map in the lower right also shows the Trans-Siberian Railway. It really feels like a map from wartime. The area circled in red is probably what was Japanese territory at the time, and it probably stretched from Taiwan to southern Sakhalin. What's interesting about the Meiji period is that the names of regions are written in "kanji." On modern maps, the names of foreign countries are written in "katakana," which gives a sense of the era.
