This was the first bombing raid on Japan in the Pacific Theater. This was the first time bombers had taken off from an aircraft carrier, the U.S. carrier "Hornet" – it was a very short runway. There was much training involved to get to this point. This piece is personally autographed by (8) Eight Doolittle Raiders, one being Colonel Richard E Cole, Jimmy Doolittles’ co-pilot shown here taking off in plane #1. This raid took the Japanese completely by surprise over Tokyo, Japan.
