GHOST CAT-SNOW LEOPARD (Limited Edition Giclee Canvas) In some Asian countries, the snow leopard is called Sabu, which means ghost cat. Indeed, this magnificent predator is a most mysterious being. We know it, and can often see it in zoos and game farms, but until recently, very few documentaries were made of the way this cat lives and hunts. Its habitat is in very remote mountain areas, where it hunts wild sheep species as exotic as the cat itself. Very recently a lucky nature photographer was able to film, in the middle of a snowstorm, a snow leopard hunting a young wild sheep. On very steep slopes, and with full speed, the pursuit wasn’t successful (the prey fell into a river), but this was never seen before. Thank you, patient nature photographers, for bringing the seemingly impossible right into our living rooms. The snow leopard’s very light, beautiful, spotted fur and wonderful thick tail put it on the endangered species list. Hunted or poached for its fur (one coat requires several cat skins), its destiny may be extinction in the near future. But there is hope.
