Happy would do it in blue.Muriel leans to gold and orange.Pat prefers aqua.Ethel just wants room-lots of it.And Abigailhasn't had time to think about...How She'd Redo the White House The trouble with the various Presidential hopefuls has not been that they haven't wrestled with such issues as Vietnam, air pollution, Black Power, and the price of gold, but that until recently not one of them had given the slightest indication about how his wife intends to redo the White House. But now that the field of candidates has narrowed down to an uneven dozen who are (or are not) going to fight each other for the right to live at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, there are signs that some serious thought is being given to this vital issue. And although the communications media have not been filled with meaningful announcements having to do with wood-burning fireplaces, draperies, tulip gar-dens, where to put the kiddies' tricycles, and architectural drawings for overhauling the East Room, experienced observers have detected a significant trend or two. "You can tell it was autumn when I decorated," Mrs. Humphrey said later, and she was right. She had done her living room in shades of gold and orange. She saw to it that the Vice-President was supplied with a cherry-paneled den and a wood-burning fireplace, and for herself there was the dressing room where she could keep her sewing machine. She found a place for an antique statue of Saint Hubert, and she hung the painting Pope Paul VI had given the Vice-President in her dining room. These, apparently, are some of the possessions that matter. And if it should come to pass in November that she should have to move? That gold couch and the two orange pull-up chairs would look marvelous in the West Sitting Hall. SINATRA POWER It sells records, fills nightclubs, makes lines at the box office, influences voters.
