Today it is perceived (by non-communists) as a transition from democracy to totalitarianism, joining the Soviet power bloc, the beginning of the oppression of the population and economic decline. During the period of socialism, February 25 was celebrated as an important day of Czechoslovakia. The transition of power into the hands of the communists led to internal and external dependence of the state's policy on the Soviet Union, political processes, imprisonment of politically and ideologically inconvenient persons, forced emigration and persecution of opponents. The totalitarian regime lasted for the next 41 years and ended with the Velvet Revolution in 1989 (Wiki).
