Pre-WW1 1903 US Army M1892 Krag-Jorgensen Bayonet & Steel Scabbard CUTDOWN

Description: This Pre-WW1 1903 US Army M1892 Krag-Jorgensen Bayonet & Steel Scabbard is in fair condition overall and shows expected signs of age, service and storage. The blade is marked clearly on each side of the ricasso "US" and "1903." Of note, the blade has been shortened and the original profile of the "dull" point has been retained. The shortening of the blade does not appear to have been an "amateur" job and the work is neat albeit regrettable. This bayonet has a similar appearance to the M1895 Cadet model and could have been cutdown for such purposes. There are detectable traces of a old, heavy coat of green paint present on the metal and wooden surfaces of this bayonet as well as the scabbard and this could be evidence of past service. The pommel press stud is free and appears to function as you would expect. The wooden grip panels show mild wear but no serious damage can be detected. The steel scabbard is in equally fair condition but still functions as you would expect. A mild amount of white "overspray" can be seen on the front face and has been left as found. The same traces of green paint found on the bayonet are easily found on the body and hanger of the scabbard too. Several soft dents can be observed as well as a strong gouge on the backside of the scabbard body. The belt hanger moves freely and appears to be in good, functional condition.
