Description: I am offering this rare, beautiful, and one of a kind paktong Chinese water pipe. Paktong is a Chinese alloy of copper, zinc, & nickel. It is beautifully adorned on all sides with floral border and patterning. I believe the bird on the bottom could be the makers mark. The Chinese characters on the bottom of the insert are hitherto unidentified by me. These Chinese water pipes are often misidentified as opium pipes. These were designed and primarily used to smoke tobacco. That's not to say that smoking opium with it would be impossible, but it would by no means be preferred. A yen tsiang, or "smoking pistol", was used for smoking opium. It allowed the smoker to vaporize the opium over a specialized oil lamp, or in some cases with a hot coal. This water pipe was used to cleanse the tobacco smoke of ash and cool it before it reached the users mouth, and or lungs. This is a beautiful and fully functional piece. It would be a great way to liven up your smoking sessions. It would also make a stunning display piece. It is without question a great conversation starter. Thanks for having a look. I sincerely appreciate your time. Please let me know if you have any questions. I will respond as promptly as possible.
