Description: Buckingham first day cover with first class ‘Lest We Forget’ WW1 Poppy commemorative stamp issued November 9 2006. Postmarked:- The Falklands Memorial Chapel, Pangbourne, Reading, Berks, 9.11.06, 25th Anniversary of The Falklands Conflict. ‘Let them never be forgotten’ 9.11.06 The cover also has 2 Falkland island stamps which feature Colonel ‘H’ Jones and Ian McKay. These were issued to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Victoria Cross and of course feature the images of the only 2 recipients from the Falklands War. They are postmarked:- Victoria Cross, First Day of Issue, Stanley, 11th Nov 2006. This first day cover is certified on a small gold label on the reverse of the cover, it states:- Sara Jones CBE id the widow of Falklands hero Lt Col H Jones VC OBE. She will sign no more than 300 Buckingham Falklands Conflict covers, which feature a single poppy stamp with Pangbourne FDI, along with 2 Falklands stamps and Stanley FDI. This is cover 60 of 300. Sara Jones once said “we stood up for what we believed in. We didn’t like to see a small country over run’.Her husband Lieutenant Colonel Herbert ‘H’ Jones (1940-1982) died leading a charge against an Argentine machine-gun post while commanding 2 Battalion, the Parachute Regiment at Goose Green. He was given a posthumous Victoria Cross medal. He is buried at Blue Beach Military Cemetary at San Carlos, Falkland islands (Ilas Malvinas) Falklands hero Sergeant Ian Mackay VC (1953-1982) features on the other stamp. He was a British Army soldier and a posthumous recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He was killed during the Battle of Mount Longdon on the Falkland Island’s and is buried in the Aldershot military cemetery. His unit was Brief information sheet enclosed. Only 2 Victoria Cross medals were awarded for bravery during the Falklands War. They were to the 2 men featured on the stamps. The background of the front cover shows the Falkland Islands, West Falkland and East Falkland. The reverse of the cover has information about ‘The Falkland Island Islands Memorial Chapel.
