Victorian Sterling Silver Corinthian Column/Pillar Candlesticks (5 ¾”)

Description: Victorian Sterling Silver Column Candlesticks Click image to enlarge Description These gorgeous candlesticks are made from sterling silver although the bases and stems have been filled. They are pillar sticks in the form of decorative Corinthian columns with ornate, foliate capitals, grooved columns and stepped bases which are edged with roping. The removable sconce cups are edged with roping and will accommodate candles measuring up to 1.7cm (¾”) in diameter. The bases are covered with green felt. Both sticks are hallmarked for Birmingham 1895. Unfortunately, the main hallmarks on the bases are so rubbed that they can’t be read. However, the sconces have clear part-marks. From what I can see of the maker’s marks, I think they may be those of William Devenport. These sticks are in lovely, usable condition, the decorative detail is nice and crisp, and I can’t find any holes to the silver. After 129 years, there are a few issues to bring to your attention. The columns have a few small, very light bruises and some pinprick dints but they’re not very visible. The bases have a number of dinks around the edges and one side is particularly dinked. One sconce has a small dink to the top edge and two corners sit slightly proud in the cup but it’s only visible from underneath. Please be aware that, after all these years, there will be some fine surface abrasions caused through use. The coverings to the bases are in good condition although one has some small missing areas.
